11 MAY 2018 / The SNF Supports the Collaboration of Athens State Orchestra with Leonidas Kavakos for Benefit Concerts in Athens and Thessaloniki

The internationally renowned conductor and soloist, Leonidas Kavakos, collaborates with the Athens State Orchestra for two concerts at the Athens Concert Hall and the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, as part of Athens State Orchestra’s social and educational activities.

The concerts will take place on Friday, May 11th, in Athens and on Sunday, May 13th, in Thessaloniki, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

Owing to the SNF's contribution, proceeds from the concerts will be made available to support the Intensive Care Unit of New Borns and the Children’s Intensive Care Unit of the Athens General Hospital Athens "Panagiotis & Aglaia Kyriakou" and the Parents Association of Children Suffering from Neoplastic Diseases, "LAMPSI", in Thessaloniki.

The concerts in Athens and Thessaloniki come on the heels of a series of Leonidas Kavakos’ concerts across Greece, aiming to develop audiences for classical music in the periphery, as well as motivate the local community’s engagement in each city.

The SNF supports the Athens States Orchestra’s initiatives to make classical music more accessible, having supported in the past the Orchestra’s “Right to Music” program, which includes the provision of free educational programs in schools in underprivileged areas, in children's hospitals, as well as to music school students in the periphery.
