The SNF RUN takes place as an integral part of the Summer Nostos Festival’s (SNFestival) open events that are organized and funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).
The race is held on Saturday, June 23rd, when the International Olympic Day is celebrated, through an exclusive grant by the SNF, in collaboration with the Hellenic Olympic Committee and with the assistance of EKAV (National Center for Emergency Care). The organization of the race is overseen by the NGO Regeneration & Progress and is under the scientific supervision of the 1st Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Athens University Medical School and the auspices of the Hellenic Police.
The well-established sports event has been running for three years with more than 10.000 athletes of all ages having participated in the previous three SNF RUN races.
This year, the race includes a 10K and a 6K run, both starting at the center of Athens, at the Panathenaic Stadium, the hosting ground of the first modern Olympic Games. In addition, a 1K race for Special Olympics athletes will also take place. The 10K race will commence at the Panathenaic Stadium at 20:50, while the 6K race will start 10 minutes later, at 21:00. All races pass though the city center and finish at the SNFCC.
The medal ceremony will take place at 22.00, when a fireworks display will light up the sky, followed by the long-anticipated concert of Animal Collective at the SNFCC’s Great Lawn.
Live commentary on the race will be provided by journalist Anna-Kynthia Bousdoukou.
Participation is free of charge. Pre-registration is required on the SNFestival’s website, here.
