At this year’s event, the “Design for Better Learning” program, which is implemented with the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), in collaboration with Athens Partnership and the Technical University of Crete, received the Gold award in the category “Optimal Learning Experience”.
The "Design for Better Learning” program aims at transforming school facilities through holistic interventions which include maintenance and renovation of classrooms, common areas and courtyards, in order to improve teaching and learning environment, encouraging at the same time the active participation of students, teachers and parents. During the 2016-7 school year, the program was implemented in 24 schools and has benefited more than 3,700 students.
The program is part of the SNF’s €10 million grant to the Municipality of Athens for the support of projects for the rejuvenation and the upgrade of the city center, in the context of the Foundation’s “Initiative Against the Greek Crisis."
