Update on the Implementation of the SNF’s Grant to the General Hospital of Athens Alexandra

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) announced, on 2014, a grant to the General Hospital of Athens Alexandra to support the execution of major reconstruction works, as well as the purchase of equipment.

The works on the Breast Department (redesign and renovation with a capacity of 18 beds) and the Outpatient Gynecology Unit have already been completed and both departments are operational , while the construction of the Pathology Outpatient Unit and the upgrade of the Hospital’s central entrance and the Blood Donation Department are expected to be completed soon. In addition, the upgrade of the digital mammography equipment in the Breast Imaging Department of the Radiology Laboratory of the Hospital has been completed.

Furthermore, the General Hospital of Athens Alexnadra, in the framework of the SNF’s Radiotherapy Program, will receive one of the ten linear accelerators that the SNF granted to seven different public hospitals in the country. Specifically, the installation works have been completed and the equipment will be delivered to the Radiotherapy Department on mid-April so that the measurement and verification process can be completed as well as the relevant permits issued. The linear accelerator is expected to start clinical operation within the next 1-2 months.
