In December 2017, FC Barcelona offered an unforgettable weekend to Nujeen Mustafá, a young Syrian refugee. FC Barcelona team driver surprised Nujeen by bringing the club’s bus to her home and driving her to watch a game at its home stadium, Camp Nou, as well as to meet the team’s players.
Nujeen was born just outside of Aleppo, Syria, and fled to Europe in September 2015. After initially arriving in Lesvos, she now resides in Germany.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is collaborating with the FC Barcelona Foundation for the implementation of sports and education programs in refugee sites and local hosting communities that follow the FutbolNet methodology, and are made possible with a grant from the SNF. More than 3,000 children in Greece, Italy and Lebanon will participate in the program, which uses soccer as a means to help and stimulate refugee children and teenager by preventing and solving conflicts and encouraging social inclusion and integration in hosting communities.
