Art dans la Cité Presents the Illuminart and the Virtual Aquarium Project in Hospitals in Greece and France
28 March 2018

The organization Art dans la Cité, presents Illuminart and the Virtual Aquarium, a project implemented in the Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital in Athens, the pediatric and orthopaedic surgery ward in Hospital Armand Trousseau in Paris and the Centre for physical rehabilitation in Bonifacio Hospital in Corsica.

Louise Mercadier, a young animation artist, encourages young patients to create their own marine creatures using materials, such as wood, shells, pebbles and plasticine in order to produce an animated movie, a virtual aquarium. Each hospital displays the virtual aquariums thus transforming the space and creating a relaxing environment for children with the immersive light and sound.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation provided support for the implementation of the Illuminart, and has provided significant support for similar projects in the past, such as La Démesure du Possible and Interactive Musical Planetarium.

The animated film, as well as the patients’ artworks, were presented during an event organized by the Art dans la Cité, in Athens, on Friday, March 16th and on Saturday, March 17th, 2018, at the Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital and the Hellenic Pasteur Institute, respectively.
