18 December 2017

At a ceremony which was held on Friday, December 15th, 2017, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) was given an honorary award from the Greek Council for Refugees as an acknowledgement of the SNF’s longstanding contribution to the organization’s work of protecting the rights of refugees in Greece.

The SNF has been providing support to the Greek Council for Refugees since 2011, through grants for the implementation of a program concerning the provision of free legal aid and counseling support at reception and detention facilities for migrants and refugees across Greece, as well as for the establishment of a refugee reception service focusing on the provision of information, material and counseling support to refugees and asylum seekers.

Most recently, the SNF has provided support for the Victims of Violence project in Athens, for which the Greek Council for Refugees works alongside Médecins Sans Frontières and the BABEL Day Centre to provide holistic support to victims of violence and other forms of abuse.
