06 DECEMBER 2017 / The Open Schools of the Municipality of Athens welcome Christmas season in Athens

The 56th Primary School of Athens turns into a Christmas wonderland on Friday, December 8th, 2017, as part of the “Open Schools” program of the Municipality of Athens. In the run-up to Christmas, lots of music, creative Christmas workshops, gift exchange, Christmas treats and beverages and many surprises await visitors of all ages at the Open Schools’ event.

The “Open Schools” program was piloted in 2015, and since then has expanded to 25 municipal public schools in Athens. Under the “Open Schools” program, school buildings of the Municipality of Athens stay open after the official hours of operation, as well as during the weekends, hosting a series of open activities of creative learning, education, entertainment and sports for all age groups. In its two short years of operation, the residents of local communities, both children and adults, have embraced this initiative, thus transforming Open Schools into meeting points for all ages and sustainable spaces for education, creative expression and social service.

The “Open Schools” program is implemented through the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), as part of the €10 million grant that has been allocated to the Municipality of Athens, in the context of the SNF’s Initiative Against the Greek Crisis.
