14 DECEMBER 2017 / The Axion Estin Foundation Chanters Perform at The Met with the SNF’s support

On Friday, December 15th, 2017, The Axion Estin Foundation’s international ensemble of chanters return to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for the annual pop-up concerts “Byzantine Pop-Ups”.

The concerts feature an eclectic selection of hymns and carols from the Byzantine Empire. The music includes scores in multiple languages as they have been transmitted orally or preserved in centuries-old music manuscripts.

The performances are produced in collaboration with the Greek Consulate of New York City and The Met. Lead support for the concerts is provided by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

The Axion Estin Foundation (AEF) is an educational non-profit organization founded in 2005 for the preservation of Byzantine music and arts. AEF produces conferences, concerts, coursework and publications to broaden understanding and audience for Byzantine music in the US.
