Inauguration of a modern MRI Scanner installed at the University General Hospital of Ioannina, with an exclusive SNF grant
27 November 2017

On Monday, November 27th, 2017, the University General Hospital of Ioannina inaugurated a new MRI Scanner with high quality diagnostic imaging capabilities, which has already started full operations in the Radiology Department of the Hospital.

The procurement of the new MRI Scanner was made possible through an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation in order to replace the Hospital’s existing obsolete radiology equipment, thereby contributing to the upgrade of the diagnostic services provided to patients in the western region of Greece, as well as significantly improving the patient flow.

The modern MRI Scanner is expected to increase the number and quality of diagnostic and imaging examinations performed at the Hospital, by minimizing the examination time.

Aiming to further enhance the Health sector in Greece, the SNF, following discussions with the Ministry of Health, recently announced its intention to fully support a series of infrastructure and education projects, with an initial budget expected to exceed €200 million.
