22 NOVEMBER 2017 / Article in the New York Times referencing the SNF’s contribution to the revitalization of Athens

The New York Times presents the work of grantee Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum, referencing the SNF’s support to the Museum’s «Jewelry Resident Program». The SNF has supported the establishment and the one-year operation of two live metalsmithing and traditional crafts studio workshops.

These specifically designed spaces of the Museum host young Greek artists and researchers, enabling them to develop and showcase the contemporary Greek jewelry art.

In addition, the article makes particular reference to the creation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, which encompasses the new facilities of the Greek National Opera and the National Library of Greece as well as the Stavros Niarchos Park, as a “sign” “that things are starting to look up in Athens”.
