The SNF supports documentary filmmaking workshops for refugees in Athens and Lesvos
17 October 2017

As part of the “Home-New-Home” project, refugees are being trained in filmmaking techniques and documentary production, while developing their expressive and narrative skills, through intensive workshops and seminars by renowned filmmakers and teachers, which are held at schools, universities and refugee asylums.

The educational process culminates in the production of short films, inspired by the refugee crisis, which constitute a personal account of the participants’ experiences.

The “Home-New-Home” project is being implemented in five main reception countries, including Greece where the program is implemented by the Educational Institute for Documentaries “History Doc”, with the support of the Starvos Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

In Athens, the seminars took place as part of the “Open Schools” program of the Municipality of Athens, exclusively supported by the SNF.

On Monday, October 16th, 2017, a Press Conference was held for the presentation of the Greek component of the Home New Home project. The forty films which were produced within the framework of the project will be screened at different locations in Athens from October 17th to October 30th.
