Inauguration of the renovated Specialized Care Center for the Mother and the Child of the Ark of the World

Oct 11, 2017
On Tuesday, October 10th, the Ark of the World held the inauguration of the social structure of the organization, a multipurpose space of solidarity for mothers and children from vulnerable social groups.

The renovated Specialized Care Center will provide a wide spectrum of services to mothers and children, with otherwise limited access to the current social structures, including material, counselling and psychosocial support services by a specialized staff (doctors, social workers, psychologists). The staff will be complemented by volunteers with relevant specialization.

This is a six level building, whose premises were reconfigured in order to house a nursery and kindergarten school, which will be attended by children of abused women, a small hostel that will provide accommodation to abandoned children and mothers, a dining room/restaurant, which will be used to provide daily meals for the homeless, teaching and educational halls, as well as an amphitheater.

The redesign and execution of renovation works, as well as the outfitting of the new facilities, were made possible through a major grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). The support of the Specialized Care Center for the Mother and the Child is part of the SNF’s wider grant program titled “Initiative Against the Greek Crisis.”

The Ark of the World is a non-profit organization that since its establishment, in 1998, by Father Antonios, has been providing support to unprotected children without a family, as well as support services to parents from underprivileged social groups.
