New York Road Runners Youth Wheelchair Program Participants Compete in the NYRR 5th Avenue Mile Event
19 September 2017

On Sunday, September 10, twelve participants from the New York Road Runners (NYRR) Youth Wheelchair Training Program competed in the NYRR 5th Avenue Mile event. Seven of the program’s participants competed in the full mile race, and five participants competed in the quarter-mile race.

The NYRR Youth Wheelchair Training Program enables wheelchair-bound kids to engage in challenging physical activity, including weekly training with coaches and races, and is currently the only program of its kind in New York City.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is proud to be among the program’s supporters.

Additionally, the SNF has previously supported NYRR’s youth running programming, thereby contributing to the development of youth racing programs within adult races.

Since 1958, New York Road Runners has been dedicated to empowering people of all ages and abilities to improve their health and wellbeing through the power of running and fitness. The organization is now one of the world’s leading community running organizations and the largest nonprofit provider of youth fitness programming in New York City.
