Art dans la Cité Presents the Illuminart and the Virtual Aquarium project in Hospitals in Greece, Paris and Corsica with the SNF’s support.
19 September 2017

The organization Art dans la Cité, presents Illuminart and the Virtual Aquarium, a project implemented in the Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital in Athens, the pediatric and orthopaedic surgery ward in Hospital Armand Trousseau in Paris and the Centre for physical rehabilitation in Bonifacio Hospital in Corsica.

Louise Mercadier, a young animation artist, encourages young patients to create their own marine creatures using materials, such as wood, shells, pebbles and plasticine in order to produce an animated movie, a virtual aquarium. Each hospital displays the virtual aquariums thus transforming the space and creating a relaxing environment for children with the immersive light and sound.

Founded in 1999 in Paris, Art dans la Cité aims to introduce contemporary visual art in hospitals with the ambition to contribute to the patients’ wellbeing and to improve the hospital environment.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation provided support for the implementation of the Illuminart, and has provided significant support for similar projects in the past, such as La Démesure du Possible and Interactive Musical Planetarium.
