Music & Memory brings personalized music into the lives of the elderly or infirm through digital music technology. Nursing home staff, elder care professionals, and family caregivers are trained in how to create personalized playlists using iPods that enable those struggling with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other cognitive and physical challenges, to reconnect with the world through music-triggered memories. The program is now being implemented in thousands of care organizations in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
In 2012, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation supported Music & Memory’s early efforts to expand in the US and Europe. Since then, the organization has developed its presence across 11 countries on 5 continents. In the US, entire state agencies have endorsed this therapy to be used throughout all their elder care facilities.
CBS News recently featured Music & Memory on their Evening News Program, focusing on the impact the personalized therapeutic music program has on patients and their families.
