Inauguration of the Sensory Environment at the Foundation “ White Butterflies”

On Saturday, March 4th, 2017 the inauguration of the new Sensory Environment at the Foundation “White Butterflies” took place. The Sensory environment was created with an exclusive grant from the SNF.

The grant provided for the entire renovation and equipment acquisition of the therapeutic intervention sensory integration unit, which includes two specifically redesigned rooms, the  Snoezelen  and the Sensory Integration. These infrastructures will establish a new model for Volos and the entire region of Thessaly, that will provide effective and specialized treatment to children and adults who have sensory integration disorders that require intervention.

The Foundation “White Butterflies” was established in 1974 in Volos and operates a boarding house for 50 people of all ages with severe mental disabilities (including Down syndrome, Autism and various sensory disabilities). It also offers basic therapeutic services such as medical, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, special physical education, swimming, autonomous living skills development and social integration programs.
