Inauguration of the SOS Children’s Villages Child and Family Support Center in Ioannina
04 October 2016

The SOS Children’s Villages Child and Family Support Center in Ioannina was inaugurated on Friday, October 30th, aiming to provide a warm environment for over 150 families in poverty per year.

As part of the global SOS Villages Family Strengthening Programs Initiative, the Centers adopt an innovative and holistic model for primary prevention, offering a wide range of services to the family and children, which aim to detect and prevent problems, to offer therapy and to keep the family together. Services are tailored to the needs of each family and include problem diagnosis, parental consulting, psychological and psychotherapeutic support to children and parents, educational support to children, creative activities, as well as support in kind with food, clothing, educational material and ad hoc financial assistance.

The SNF supports the operation of 9 Family and Child Support Centers across Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Komotini, Irakleio, Ioannina, Peristeri, Kalamata), which offer help to over 1,600 families throughout the country.

The purpose of SOS Children's Villages is to help children who have lost their parents or are homeless for other reasons. The principles of SOS pedagogy are considered exemplary and the SOS Children’s Village family is considered the best alternative to the natural family environment. The SNF has been supporting the significant work of the organization since 2012.
