The SNFCC is the largest single gift of the SNF, totaling $831 million ((€596 million). A Special Advisory Committee, which convenes on a monthly basis, has been formed to monitor the effective progress of the project and work towards its successful delivery to the Greek State, as well as towards its optimal future operation. These meetings promote the effective partnership and cooperation between all parties involved, and are considered particularly important for the future operation of the SNFCC, as they provide participants with the opportunity to be informed on the developments of the project, to exchange opinions, and to timely manage any issues that may arise regarding the project’s operation.
The Committee’s meetings are attended by the representatives of the SNF and the SNFCC, as well as by representatives of all the institutions and official bodies which are contributing to the implementation of the SNFCC and will have a key role in its future operation. These bodies include:
The Office of the Prime Minister
The Ministry of Finance
The Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs
The Ministry of Culture and Sports
The Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change
The Municipality of Kallithea
The Greek National Opera
The National Library of Greece
Furthermore, the Committee’s meetings are attended by representatives of the Organization “Friends and Patrons of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center”, as well as representatives of the project’s management team and contractor.
The Special Advisory Committee met for the first time on June 29, 2007 and has since carried out 59 meetings.
The main objective of the live broadcast, which took place for the first time on January 11 and will also be provided in the forthcoming Committee meetings, is to directly inform everyone, without exception, about the project, and its progress, up until its final delivery to the Greek State, which will then assume its full control and operation.
By making the meetings of this special “governmental” committee—as it has come to be known among the participants—open to the public, the Foundation enables the end users of the SNFCC to gain an insightful understanding of the project and, in particular, of the procedures which are being followed in preparation of the SNFCC’s launch of operations.
Meeting Agenda (Available only in Greek)
The next meeting of the Special Advisory Committee will take place on February 22, at the SNFCC, and will be live streamed on the Foundation’s website too.
