50th anniversary of Swiss excavations at the ancient site of Eretria
20 November 2014

Since 1964, Swiss archaeologists have been involved in the excavation of the remains of the ancient site of Eretria on the island of Euboea. The discoveries and publications reflect the richness and originality of the past of Eretrians.

In order to mark the 50th anniversary of the excavations, the Swiss Archaeological School in Greece is organizing an official celebration at the University of Lausanne, on November 21st, 2014. The SNF has been supporting these activities in Eretria since 1997.

The activities of the Swiss Archaeological School in Greece are multiple and include the exploration of the city’s past by the excavation of its ruins, the study of the material discovered, the publication of research, the preservation of archaeological remains in the field and in the museum, and the development and presentation to the public.
