Special Event at the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth (UK)
25 FEBRUARY 2014

On February 26, the Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit the Mary Rose Museum as well as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Learning Center and will have an opportunity to view at close quarters some of the unique artifacts in display. The Prince of Wales, President of the Mary Rose Trust, has been actively involved with the Mary Rose since his first dive on the wreck on July 30, 1975 and has followed the project very closely since the beginning.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Learning Center includes a multi-functional room for teaching history and art to 32 school children, a Science Laboratory for teaching science to up to 32 school children, and a community room, which allows groups to carry out research away from the main classroom. The center is part of the permanent museum which displays the Mary Rose hull and more than 60 % of the ship’s 19,000 artifacts from the 16th century. Since opening last May the Mary Rose Museum has welcomed over 340,000 visitors and nearly 11,000 school children were taught through the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Learning Suite.
