23 December 2013

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation, in its effort to promote athletic ideals, supports, for the ninth year running, a unique initiative of educational nature by the renowned Greek soccer player, Mimis Papaioannou. All the activities included in the Program in question are aimed at instilling the principles of «fair play» primarily in children living in rural and underprivileged areas.

The Soccer Academies’ Tournament “Ethos Cup Mimis Papaioannou” takes place every year, with the participation of 180 athletes/students from eight soccer academies, in various Municipalities across Attica. This year’s Tournament will be held in the Municipality of Palaio Faliro, Attica, from the 27th to the 30th of December.

In addition, the Program includes the organization of the Girls’ Soccer Academies’ Tournament “Ethos Cup Mimis Papaioannou”, with female athletes from soccer academies, aged 15 to 17 years old. The Tournament will be held in Chalkida, during the school Easter break 2014.

The aim of all these activities is the expansion of sports education programs, which are organized throughout Greece, so as to cultivate the spirit of noble competition in school sports.
