24 JULY 2013 / Third SNF International Conference on Philanthropy - June 26 and 27, 2014

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation is pleased to announce the Third Annual Stavros Niarchos Foundation International Conference on Philanthropy, scheduled to take place in Athens on June 26 and 27, 2014.

The Conference, organized  in collaboration with the European Foundation Centre, will explore the following themes:

RECHARGING THE YOUTH – JUNE 26, 2014
On October 4, 2013, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation announced a new initiative, Recharging the Youth, to help create new opportunities for Greece’s younger generations, which are severely impacted by the country’s alarmingly high unemployment rate, currently exceeding 60%. The issue is complex and the creation of new opportunities requires innovation and the collaboration and convergence of different sectors including public, private and philanthropy. In order to explore effective ways to address the situation, the Foundation organized a conference in New York, in April 2014, which brought together economists, policy makers, foundations, NGOs, government officials and businessmen, with the goal to discuss in depth ways and initiatives that have the potential to lead to job creation and growth. The first day of the third Stavros Niarchos Foundation Annual International Conference on Philanthropy will continue on the path of the April conference, and will expand its reach.

PHILANTHROPY AND ETHICS – JUNE 27, 2014
The extraordinary challenges facing humanity worldwide have motivated a significant increase in philanthropic and charitable efforts to help address those challenges. The increase, however, of philanthropic activities has raised at the same time many important ethical questions in relation to charitable giving. The second day of the third Stavros Niarchos Foundation Annual International Conference on Philanthropy will address a number of these ethical questions, focusing, among other things, on volunteerism and the ethical issues surrounding corporate philanthropy.

ARTS AND CULTURE: CREATIVE ASSETS AND THEIR SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE – JUNE 27, 2104
The second day of the Conference will also address the integral role of arts and culture in the social and economic life of communities, focusing, among other things, on the impact and civic importance of cultural centers such as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

The Third International Conference on Philanthropy follows in the heels of the Second International Conference on Philanthropy which took place on June 27 and June 28, 2013 and explored The Role of Philanthropy within a Social Welfare Society.
