Driven by its faith in the productive potential of Greece, and the importance of youth entrepreneurship in creating new economic activity throughout the country, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (www.SNF.org) is funding, through a grant, the not for profit organization “Metavallon”. The organization’s activities are aimed at supporting young Greek entrepreneurs and providing all means necessary for them to develop and establish their venture in the current economic environment.
The Foundation’s support to this initiative is part of a major grant of 100 million euro, which the Foundation has decided to distribute over a three-year period, in order to actively help alleviate the adverse effects of the economic crisis in Greece.
With the aim of creating a supporting structure for the initial stages of new business ventures, “Metavallon” is running the “Startup Series”, an original program for aspiring entrepreneurs, which offers them the necessary support, from the initial idea and the search for investors through to the creation of the business and its first steps.
The program consists of three stages (Gymnasium, Academy, Institute), upon completion of which the selected participants will have gained invaluable skills and turned their ideas into dynamic businesses.
The “Startup Series” is based on the benefits of work placements, and participants also have the opportunity to visit international centers of entrepreneurship (New York, Silicon Valley) and receive guidance from a global network of experts and specialists.
In that context, the Gymnasium, the first stage of the program dedicated to the development of the initial business idea, is expected to begin in November, with the deadline for the submission of applications by candidates being the 5th of November. The Gymnasium consists of a total of eight intensive entrepreneurship and skill development workshops, aimed at helping the participants turn their idea into a business opportunity and assess its viability.
Gymnasium 2013 is the second program run by “Metavallon” in Greece; participants from the previous intake are expected to establish their businesses in the immediate future. In addition, it is worth noting that, as part of the Academy program, eight (8) participants from a total of five (5) new start ups are currently in the United States, in order to present their businesses and take part in networking events with experts, investors and entrepreneurs.
