The Stavros Niarchos Foundation provided the funds for the necessary works of infrastructure and repair on the historic building, as well as for the construction of exhibits and the purchase of equipment, in order to enable Arcturos to create a Center that corresponds to the important educational work they do.
The Center for Environmental Education will house a permanent exhibition featuring scientific, photographic and interactive materials in 15 thematic areas pertaining to the wild flora and fauna of Greece, and visitors will have access to detailed information on these issues. The primary goal is to inform the public and encourage active participation in the protection of the environment. The Center will also offer environmental education programs, such as seminars, presentations, documentaries, etc.
Arcturos was founded in 1992. Its key mission is to protect and treat wildlife and to inform the public on issues regarding the protection and management of wildlife and the environment. The organization maintains a bear shelter, a wolf shelter and a bear information centre in Amyntaio. In addition, Arcturos runs environmental awareness and education programs in conjunction with schools all across Greece.
