Be Strong introduces cancer telephone helpline service
01 February 2010

On the eve of World Cancer Day, February 3rd, 2010, the nonprofit organization Be Strong will inaugurate its new premises, and will introduce officially the national telephone helpline 1069.

The helpline has been operating since January 18th, 2010, and has been realized  through a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, which will fund its operation  for one year. The helpline aims at supporting cancer patients and their families, and it  is operated by four specialists and several trained volunteers. It also includes the option of conversing with cancer survivors, thus helping patients deal with the disease in a more personal manner.

Be Strong was founded in the fall of 2007 to provide information and support to cancer patients. The organization maintains a website that offers guidance on cancer, including medical information, prevention techniques, and a directory of organizations that offer support. The site also hosts an online community where visitors can share views and experiences.
