Jim Gianopulos, Chairman & CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, will visit Greece and address public audiences in Athens and Thessaloniki on November 22nd and 23rd respectively, as part of the “Great Ideas” series.

Jim Gianopulos, Chairman & CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, will visit Greece and address public audiences in Athens and Thessaloniki on November 22nd and 23rd respectively, as part of the “Great Ideas” series.

Since 2006, the “Great Ideas” series has supported educational and cultural connections between Greece and the United States.  The goal of the series is to bring noted American experts to Greece to discuss current topics of interest to Greeks and Americans.  The series is organized by the Fulbright Foundation and the Embassy of the United States of America in Greece and is supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. The series was inaugurated with the visit of the noted bioethicist Dr. Ruth Faden in December 2007, followed by Glenn Lowry, Director of the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), in March 2008 and Dr. Richard Levin, President of Yale University, in May 2008.

On Sunday, November 22nd, at 11:00, Jim Gianopulos will attend a roundtable discussion at the John Kassavetes Theatre (Warehouse 1) in Thessaloniki with Danai Mikelli, graduate of Film School, Aristotle University and Toby Lee Harvard University visual Anthropologist and Fulbright Alumna. Despina Mouzaki, Vice President & Thessaloniki Festival Director will deliver introductory remarks. The event is co-organized by the Great Ideas series and the 50th Thessaloniki International Film Festival, and admission will be free.

On Monday November 23, at 19:00, Mr. Gianopulos will speak on the subject of “Hellenism and Hollywood: from Aristotle to Alexander (Payne)”, at Megaron the Athens Concert Hall, (Banquet Hall). Admission will be free, with admission tickets available from 18:00 onwards on the same day.

On Tuesday November 24, at 11:30 Mr. Gianopulos will address film professionals and students at the Greek Film Archive Foundation housed in cinema “Lais”, located at the junction of Iera Odos and Megalou Alexandrou streets.  The discussion will be conducted by Fulbright Alumna, Toby Lee, visual anthropologist, Valerie Kontakos, film producer and Elftheria Astrinaki filmmaker and Fulbright Alumna.

For all events in Athens and Thessaloniki, simultaneous translation will be provided. Communication sponsors of the events include the newspapers To Vima and Angelioforos, the TV channel MEGA TV and the news website In.gr.
