Emotion Pictures: 3rd International Festival on “Documentary and Disability”
18 June 2009

For the third consecutive year the International Emotion Pictures Festival ”Documentary and Disability” will open its doors to the public with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. The Festival will take place from June 19th to 22nd at the new Benaki Museum.

(Opening on the 19th at 21.00 and closing on the 22nd, same time).

The Emotion Pictures Festival promotes the understanding and acceptance of people

with disabilities by the media and the general public. The works in the Festival examine

disability in the broader context of issues such as war, environmental destruction,

socioeconomic challenges, motherhood, and sexual orientation.

The Emotion Pictures International Documentary Festival on Disability is organized by

the Secretariat General of Communication - Secretariat General of Information in

collaboration with the Greek Film Centre. The first two years of the Festival were very

successful: more than 8,000 people saw a selection of 600 movies and documentaries

from all over the world.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation has assisted the Festival in creating an educational

audiovisual kit about disability issues and in distributing the kit to 500 schools and

municipalities across Greece, with an emphasis on schools in border and poorer areas.

The kit includes the 15 winning documentaries from the first and second Festivals,

tailored to the age groups of the recipient school or municipality.

In addition, four celebrities with disabilities will visit four municipalities in the Greek

province to discuss the screenings. Representatives of the Festival will be available to

visit other interested schools and municipalities.
