On April 14th, the Hellenic Institute of Architecture will present the winners of the 2008 Architecture Awards and inaugurate the opening of an exhibition of the contestant works. The award ceremony will be held at the Benaki Museum at 19.00. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation is the exclusive donor for the Awards ceremony and the exhibition, which will be on view from April 15th to June 7th, 2009.
The Architecture Awards are presented every four years with the goal of promoting
original works of architecture that feature creativity and innovation and blend in well
with the surrounding environment. The works in the competition fall into three
categories: private residence works, public works, and others.
The exhibition will allow the public to appreciate the contestant works through
photographs, designs and wax models. The variety of works in the exhibition
represents an overview of the latest trends in Greek modern architecture.
The Hellenic Institute of Architecture is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1995
with the mission of promoting Greek architecture. In cooperation with institutions
such as the Municipality of Athens, the German Architecture Museum, and various
country embassies, the Institute has organized lectures featuring renowned
architects, book publishing initiatives, and exhibitions, including “Hellenic Architecture
in the 20th Century,” which was presented in multiple European cities. It has also
established the New Greek Architects Biennale and the Architecture Awards.
