04 MAY 2007 / Holy Metropolitan Church of Monemvassia and Sparta - Inauguration Ceremony of the Home for the Elderly

On Friday, May 4th the Health Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos, inaugurated at 19:00 the Old People’s Home of the Holy Metropolitan Church of Monemvassia and Sparta, in Elica- Laconia. The Home was constructed and fully equipped by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. This grant will be the first, in memory of the late Mary A. Dracopoulos, sister of the founder Stavros S. Niarchos, at their county of origin, Laconia.

The Old People’s Home is located in Voion area, between Sparta and Neapolis, in an olive planted area of 40.000 sq.m. In a building site area of 1,000 sq.m., the Old People’s Home will be able to host 20 elderly people, providing them with medical care apart from quality shelter and food. The Home has 10 fully equipped rooms, and 5 of them are especially designed and furnished to host special abilities’ people. Due to the great necessity the Home will be able to serve the whole county, being fully accessible by special abilities persons. 

 

It is worth mentioning that during the ten years of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s operation, it has implemented 27 grants at Niarchos’ homeland, Laconia, 12 of which, to the Holy Metropolitan Church of Monemvassia and Sparta.
