Spotlight on 25 Years of Grantmaking: Notes from SNF Chief Investment Officer Rick Petty

Why is SNF’s mission important to you?

It is wonderful to be engaged with an organization that is entirely focused on benefiting humanity on a global scale. The ability to participate in an effort to contribute to the betterment of society is extremely enriching. SNF is one of very few organizations that has the scale and diversity to offer such an important level of support to so many.

What’s your favorite part of working at SNF?

Bringing together my prior work experiences in the investment service industry to support the efforts of SNF. My rotation throughout several jobs in financial services made the transition to the Foundation an easy and logical step for my career. Having the prior experience in financial services business provides me the ability to seek the best results for the Foundation in the function of my job.

What’s a grant that’s stuck with you over time?

The delivery of Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) to the people of Greece was an amazing achievement. SNF managed the design, development, and construction of the buildings and grounds all the way to completion, representing the largest single grant for SNF. After completion, being able to stand on the site and witness the hard work of so many is truly inspirational. What is even more exciting is to watch so many families and friends enjoy the facilities at the SNFCC.

Rick Petty, SNF Chief Investment Officer, New York
2021 represents his 20th year working for SNF and related companies. Prior to arriving at SNF, Rick spent 20 years working in asset management, risk management, custody services, and investment consulting. After growing up in the Midwest, Rick planned to move to New York for a couple of years. That plan failed and he has been in the New York region ever since. Nevertheless, he still maintains his Midwestern roots by spending summer vacations at a family home on Lake Michigan.
