If you’ve always been an ambitious runner, now is your chance to set your goals even higher—at an altitude of 950 meters to be precise. A one-of-kind mountain race through the the picturesque mountain landscape of Vamvakou, the Vamvakou Mountain Run is returing for its sixth year.
The run, designed for both experienced and amateur runners who wish to enjoy a fully immersive mountain experience, includes three routes: 29, 19, and 7 kilometers. Starting from the village square at an altitude of 950 meters, the routes cross through gorges, forest roads, and hiking trails, reaching all the way up to 1900 meters at the heart of mount Parnon.
The Vamvakou Mountain Run is organized by Vamvakou Revival as part of its efforts to bring new life to the village with support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
Of course one race is never enough, but don’t worry. You’ll have the chance to run again at the SNF Nostos Run, which will take place in Athens on June 23 as part of SNF Nostos 2026, celebrating SNF’s 30 years of grantmaking.
