The SNF Αttends Special Olympics 50th Anniversary Celebration

On July 17th, 2018, the Special Olympics 50th Anniversary Celebration kicked off in Chicago, the birthplace of the first International Special Olympics Summer Games, featuring a series of events that brought together Special Olympics athletes, volunteers, supporters and friends of the global movement from around the world to celebrate the “Inclusion Revolution”, Special Olympics’ mission to create inclusive communities.

Representatives of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) also take part in the Special Olympics 50th Anniversary Celebration events running until July 21st, 2018.

In June, the SNF and Special Olympics International announced a landmark collaboration to support global social inclusion, with a three-year, $10 million grant by SNF aiming to increase access and opportunity to school-based inclusive sports and education programming, representing a community that comprises of approximately 3-4% of the global population. The announcement took place as part of the 7th International SNF Conference on Philanthropy, which featured Special Olympics Chairman, Dr. Timothy Shriver, as the keynote speaker.

In addition, on July 20th, 2018, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center participated in the “Light Up for Inclusion” initiative, along with more than 70 landmark buildings worldwide, turning RED in a global display of unity.
