Inauguration of a New Hall for the Sunday Schools of the Holy Church of Saint George of Elefsina
The Sunday Schools are housed in an area opposite the Holy Church of Saint George, in the heart of Elefsina, and provide important social work to the residents of the wider region, with the support of 30 active volunteers and the guidance of Father Vlassios. The Sunday Schools of the Holy Church of Saint George of Elefsina offer hagiography and Byzantine music lessons to about 100 children, as well as soup kitchen meals to more than 150 people on a daily basis.
The aim of the renovation was the further expansion of the previously limited space of the Sunday Schools and, specifically, the utilization of the basement—with a total surface area of 160 sq.m.—which functioned as a storage space. Now, thanks to the renovation works, the basement Hall is a completely functional space where, apart from hagiography and Byzantine music lessons, documentary screenings and discussions will take place. Another important element is that the social school lessons—previously interrupted due to lack of space—will restart once again, while the desire to establish a theater group has also been manifested. The main goal of the project is for the Sunday Schools to serve as a second home for both children and young adults, by “hosting” their various creative pursuits.
