Harlem Stage Honors SNF with 2019 Philanthropy Award

Apr 16, 2019
Harlem Stage announced that it would honor the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) with its 2019 Philanthropy Award.
The award will be presented at Harlem Stage’s May 20th gala in New York City.

SNF has supported educational programs at Harlem Stage that have introduced thousands of students each year to the organization’s range of inspiring performing arts offerings. The Foundation also provided exclusive support for a five-week run of free performances of Antigone in Ferguson at Harlem Stage in 2018. Created in the wake of Michael Brown’s death in 2014, Antigone in Ferguson intertwines excerpts from Sophocles’ Antigone with music from a rotating chorus of activists, police officers, and others from Harlem and the St. Louis area.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation is deeply honored by this award and is proud to support Harlem Stage in offering a rich diversity of performing arts opportunities and sharing them with the public at large through educational outreach,” said SNF Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos. “Last year’s run of Antigone in Ferguson demonstrates how Harlem Stage makes possible performances that are simultaneously accessible to audiences of all types and provocative of important conversations.”
