Book Launch Regarding the Life and Work civil engineer Andreas C. Dracopoulos (1891-1973)

On Monday, June 25th, 2018, the SNF grantee MONUMENTA held the presentation of a book on the life and work of civil engineer Andreas C. Dracopoulos (1891-1973), by the collector Giannis Lambrou, at the Lighthouse of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).

Andreas C. Dracopoulos, was in charge of the planning and design of a vast number of private and public construction projects, most of them within the city of Athens. His work is highlighted through a rare collection of documents preserved by collector Giannis Lambrou. Thousands of documents, photographs and construction plans reveal information for the construction of hundreds of buildings, published for the first time, enriching our knowledge about civil construction and technical expertise as well as the work of great architects and civil engineers.

The 340-page book includes pictures and documents from the period that Andreas Dracopoulos studied and served as a military engineer, in the periphery of Epirus (1913-17), and focuses on the construction projects which he oversaw.

Among others, Andreas Dracopoulos was in charge of the construction of the pioneering, for its time, project of the Race Track in the Faliron Delta area, which decades later was transformed into the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the SNF’s largest single grant.

The publication of the book was supported on a personal and private basis by the SNF's co-President and grandson of Andreas C. Dracopoulos, who bears his name.
