Andreas Dracopoulos honored by Union Settlement, a pillar of East Harlem
It is one of New York’s oldest settlement houses—institutions woven into the fabric of the city to build connections between people and with resources—and its 450 staff work together with 10,000 residents of one of the city’s lowest-income communities.
Embedded as an integral part of its neighborhood since 1895, Union Settlement takes a ground-up approach, offering multiple points of entry across 14 locations then working together with members of the community as they achieve their goals and strive to create a more just society. The organization offers a wide array of programs in early childhood education, youth services, adult education, senior services, mental health services, business development, and public engagement.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is honored to have had the chance to partner with Union Settlement, providing overall support for its work offering this panoply of essential services, from business literacy courses to mental health resources for older adults. SNF Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos, also a strong personal supporter of Union Settlement’s vital work, was recognized as an honoree at the organization’s Spring Benefit on April 20, 2022.
We are grateful for the incredible work Union Settlement does each day, informed by long experience, a spirit of reciprocity, and a belief that everyone should have a sense of belonging.
