The Stavros Niarchos Foundation honors the Greek National Football Team with grants to several nonprofits, totaling €1,250,000, for philanthropic causes in Greece

In particular, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation committed to making a €50,000 grant in the name of each of the 25 members of the National Team, in support of philanthropic causes of their choice, all across the country. Today, the Foundation has the pleasure of announcing the not for profit organizations selected by the members of the team that will share the total amount of €1,250,000.

The nonprofits that will receive a grant, as part of the above initiative, as indicated by the members of the National Team, are (in alphabetical order):

The National Team grants will help to provide relief to population groups that have been particularly affected by the current crisis, such as children, people with disabilities, and the elderly. 

Each grant will be made directly by the Foundation to each individual non-profit, both in the name of the respective football player or coach who suggested it and the whole of the national team. 

Through this initiative, the Foundation wishes to acknowledge the effort put in by the players on the football field, and the capacity of sports to lift the collective spirits of a nation facing times of hardship. Athletes ought to serve as role models and, through its grant, the Foundation hopes to encourage more individuals who are in a position to help at this time of adversity to do so.
