The Greek National Opera (GNO) announces its 2025/26 program

Jun 25, 2025

From La Gioconda—directed by Oliver Mears, the Director of Opera at the Royal Opera House in London—and the long-awaited collaboration between Giorgos Koumendakis, Dimitris Papaioannou, and Teodor Currentzis on Requiem for the End of Love to the first Greek National Opera (GNO) performance at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus in 65 years, the new GNO productions for the 2025/26 season, made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), are united by the thematic aim connecting a “glorious past" to an “ambitious future.”

The performances, which will be presented at the Stavros Niarchos Hall, are made possible by an SNF grant to enhance the GNO’s artistic outreach. The program,  curated by GNO Artistic Director, Giorgos Koumendakis, features international coproductions, opera and dance tours, original works, and top collaborations with leading artists from Greece and abroad.

The artistic program for the 2025/2026 season is supported through a two-year SNF grant made in 2024 to further support the organization’s artistic outreach in Greece and abroad, following the completion of a four-year SNF grant made in 2019 also to bolster the GNO’s artistic outreach and supporting the development of targeted artistic co-productions, residencies and international tours.
