During the Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s (SNF) “Back to the Roots” DIALOGUES event on Saturday, July 13 in the Laconian village of Vamvakou, SNF Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos announced a new addition to the Foundation’s major Health Initiative in Greece.
He shared SNF’s intention to move forward with a grant for the creation of a new hospital in Sparta, in collaboration with the architectural firm Renzo Piano Building Workshop.
The announcement follows the recent visit of the Co-President and an SNF team to Laconia to learn about the progress of grants there and examine potential new partnerships that will benefit the region and improve residents’ access to health, education, and cultural services.
Efforts in the prefecture also include the Vamvakou Revival initiative, spearheaded by a group of five young people, with a grant and collaboration from SNF. The plan to revive the village, which is the ancestral hometown of Stavros Niarchos, is already underway, aiming to attract visitors and permanent residents, utilizing technology and innovation n but with respect for the village’s history and tradition.
