SNF Visits Financial Journalism Training Program in Ghana

Nov 08, 2019
Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa’s Financial Journalism Training Program brings together journalists to build familiarity with capital markets, public policy, and economics and build skills in data analysis, accounting, and journalism. Representatives of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), which supports the program, had a chance to see it in action in Accra, Ghana today.

The Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa, of which the Financial Journalism Training program is the centerpiece, looks to enhance business and financial reporting capacity as a way to encourage accountability and sound governance. The program is active in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Tanzania, but has graduated participants from more than a dozen countries.

SNF’s support takes place in partnership with Bloomberg and Strathmore Business School in Kenya. It forms part of the Foundation’s broader support for initiatives that provide journalists the resources and skills they need to pursue excellence in their field. These initiatives include summer scholarships for Greek journalists to Columbia University’s School of Journalism, the Center for Strategic and International Studies Journalism Bootcamp, and the Athens-based incubator for Media Education and Development, iMEdD, which was founded in 2018 with the exclusive support of the Foundation.
