SNF Paideia Program at UPenn Sponsors First Event, Focusing on Environmental Citizenship
Oct 16, 2019
Efforts to tackle climate change, and how successful they ultimately are, are inextricably linked to the functioning of our democracies.
What should the role of government regulation be in encouraging "environmental citizenship"?
In collaboration with a range of other organizations at the University of Pennsylvania, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Paideia program co-sponsored its first-ever event on Tuesday, October 15, Climate Justice and Environmental Citizenship."
The event brought scholars, activists, youth leaders, students, artists, climate educators, and others from the UPenn community and around Pennsylvania together in conversation. Co-sponsoring the event alongside the SNF Paideia Program are Climate Reality Project at Penn, Fossil Free Penn, Penn Eco Reps, and Student Sustainability Association at Penn.
Through the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Paideia Program, the University of Pennsylvania is imagining a new paradigm for its project of educating students as whole people and citizens. The five-year pilot Paideia Program will offer a holistic approach to the civic skills and ethical frameworks Penn already works to impart to its students, building on and leveraging the University’s existing resources.
