SNF Agora Institute director Hahrie Han framed the need for this type of educational offering. “Research shows us that civics education in the United States is often siloed—especially from STEM fields—and much of the existing civics education is outdated for the 21st century,” she said. “There is a growing mismatch between the skills people need and what they have when they graduate from college.
Created in 2018 through a $150 million grant from SNF, the SNF Agora Institute brings together experts from political science, psychology, philosophy, and other disciplines to help address this mismatch, to translate scholarly insights into actionable knowledge that can make pluralistic democracy more resilient.
