They hail from Tehran, Saigon, Norway/Nigeria, Argentina, and Seoul and work in cities around the world in a range of artistic media. Four of the five are women.

Meet the artists nominated for the 2023 Joan Miró Prize.

The Joan Miró Prize is awarded to an early- or mid-career artist at a critical point in their professional life whose work resonates with the values and honors the legacy of Barcelona-born Miró. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is providing lead support for Fundació Joan Miró in organizing the return of the prize after a short hiatus.

Established in 2007, the prize has spotlighted artists from around the globe and commissioned them to produce new exhibitions, while also connecting candidates to wider artistic networks. This year, an educational project developed in parallel with the prize will encourage primary school and university students to engage with work by contemporary artists.
