Press Conference regarding SNFCC’s Operation Since Delivery

Oct 17, 2018
On Wednesday, October 17th, 2018, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) held a Press Conference reporting on its activities since 2017, the year in which it was delivered by SNF to the Greek State and to the world, to date.

The Press Conference took place on the premises of the National Library of Greece, at the SNFCC, with the participation of the Minister of Finance, Mr. Euclid Tsakalotos, the Co-President of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), Mr. Andreas Dracopoulos, who joined in through live feed from the US, Mr. Nikos Manolopoulos, Managing Director of the SNFCC, Mr. Giorgos Koumendakis, Greek National Opera's Artistic Director, and Mr. Stavros Zoumboulakis, President of the Board of Trustees of the National Library of Greece.

During the event, the SNF Co-President, Mr. Andreas Dracopoulos, stated: “A successful outcome is not easy to achieve in an undertaking like this. It is the result of many years of close collaboration between the private and public sectors, a kind of collaboration which is unique in the world. For decades, we have shown not just through our words, but through our actions that we believe in Greece, we believe in Greeks, and that is why we are here. The success of the SNFCC—guided by a vision that transcends the place it inhabits—is the result of human effort. We are all working towards the same goal: to see the SNFCC thrive and remain a space that belongs not to anyone but to everyone."

The development of the SNFCC is the largest single grant in the history of the SNF, a testament to the Foundation’s mission and long-standing commitment to Greece. Nearly two years have passed since the day the SNF delivered the SNFCC to its permanent owner, the Greek State and, by extension, to the Greek society, with a large celebration. Following the SNFCC’s delivery, the SNF announced its commitment to continue supporting the SNFCC for five years, through grants of $53 million for the implementation of SNFCC’s public programming, as well as for operational costs, while it continues to provide support to the organizations relocated there, namely the Greek National Opera and the National Library of Greece.

Today, with the support of millions of friends and visitors, the SNFCC, through its high-quality and multifaceted programming, offered with free admission for all with the exclusive support of the SNF, has attained worldwide recognition, ” encapsulating the countless possibilities and prospects of our country, for which we will continue to strive”, as Mr. Dracopoulos said during the delivery ceremony.
