New multipurpose space for education and culture opens in Trikala Prison

Nov 05, 2021
A new multipurpose space dedicated to education and culture at Greece’s Trikala Prison was recently outfitted and opened with a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

In addition to serving as a library, the multipurpose facility will host cultural, educational, and therapeutic activities, as well as support programs to help people incarcerated there prepare to reintegrate into society.

Students will be able to use the space to read and study, and three rooms have been set up to host training programs, creative activities, and seminars. A stage will host cultural and recreational activities, such as theatrical performances, musical events, lectures, and film screenings.

The design of the new space took place within the framework of a professional training program in plastering techniques for people incarcerated at the prison.
