Oct 16, 2018
On Thursday the 18th and Friday the 19th of October, the Hellenic Authors’ Society hosts an international symposium, titled “Why Read: The Role of Writers and Books in the 21st Century”. The symposium is held as part of the Athens 2018 World Book Capital events of the Municipality of Athens, for which lead support is provided by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
The Symposium aspires to create a platform for dialogue, bringing together distinguished Greek and foreign authors, critics, translators and academics to discuss about the future of writing and the changing relationship between authors, books and readers, as well as between language and translation.
The Symposium is being held in collaboration with Columbia University’s Institute for Comparative Literature and Society and the Department of English Language and Literature from the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens.
