Inauguration of the New Facilities of the Elderly Care Unit of Lixouri in Kefalonia

Member of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation receives a memorandum gift in honor of the inauguration of the new Facilities of the Elderly Care Unit of Lixouri in Kefalonia

On Tuesday, September 4th, 2018, the new building that houses the Elderly Care Unit of Lixouri was inaugurated on the island of Kefalonia. The former’s facilities had suffered severe damages, following the earthquakes that hit the island in 2014.

The reconstruction of the building, which was completed in May, was made possible through a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

The aim of SNF grant for the complete reconstruction of the building was to contribute to the immediate and substantial relief of the local community from the devastating effects of the earthquakes, and to support one of the most important social welfare organizations with a long history in the region, which accommodates 40 elderly people.
