The Emperor’s Nightingale takes flight and lands in the traditional Laconian village of Vamvakou.
The work by Lena Platonos, based on a Hans Kristian Andersen’s fairy tale, was presented last year at the Greek National Opera’s (GNO) Alternative Stage with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), enchanting children and adults alike.
Now, The Emperor’s Nightingale travels to Vamvakou for a unique screening of the recorded performance on Saturday, November 30 at 18:00.
Lena Platonos, whose work has been inextricably connected with children through the legendary children’s songs of the classic Lilipoupoli radio show, wrote this “musical fairy tale with operatic elements,” as she describes it, with the goal of addressing the uneven relationship between humans and technology.
The screening is part of the monthly program of events organized at the village of Vamvakou, as part of the Vamvakou Revival project, which is implemented with the support and encouragement of SNF.
This is not the first time that the GNO and Vamvakou Revival have joined forces. The two organizations, both supported by SNF in major ongoing initiatives, met in summer 2019 as part of SNF’s July DIALOGUES event.
