Fundación Exit Targets Youth Unemployment in Spain’s Balearic Islands

In the Balearic Islands, which include Mallorca and Ibiza, the youth unemployment rate is more than double of what it is in the European Union overall. The Yob Project aims to help people ages 19 to 25 who might otherwise have difficulty entering the workforce build marketable competencies and a personal brand, and puts them in direct contact with partner employers who have vacancies to fill. Participants work with a consulting firm to develop skills and with a mentor from one of several companies to set and work towards professional goals.

In other areas of Spain, this strategy has helped 83% of participants gain work experience in the year following their participation in the Yob Project.

Fundación Exit, which runs a number of projects aiming to help young people at risk of social exclusion find employment, hopes in the long run to see companies incorporate this goal into their business strategy. SNF has provided repeated support for the Yob Project, paralleling major support for our Recharging the Youth initiative  targeting youth unemployment in Greece.
